Architect RTKL has been forced to revise designs for Birmingham’s 200m VPT200 tower - the Vertiplex - after the city council reduced the site size by 120sq m to accommodate a road-widening project.

The £95 million leisure and observation tower which is on schedule, was due to open in 2010, but will now open in 2011 according to Charles Pettifer, project director at developer Pettifer Estates .

The VPT200 tower will feature a hotel next to an observation deck, a bungee-jump platform and white-knuckle rides. It was last year hailed by city council leader Mike Whitby as “bold and innovative”.
