Architects in frame for £20,000 Stirling Prize

The shortlist nominees for this year’s £20,000 Stirling Prize has been unveiled at the RIBA National and International Awards at London’s Hilton Hotel.

Among those competing for the award are architects Allies & Morrison, Reiach & Hall, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and previous Stirling Prize winners David Chipperfield and Grimshaw.

The final shortlist for the £20,000 Stirling Prize will be announced on July 17, and the winner will be revealed on October 11 2008.

Twenty-six award winners including Gumuchdjian, Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield, John Pawson and the Heatherwick Studio scooped National and European prizes at the Hilton Hotel in London.

Meanwhile, Gianni Botsford Architects fended off stiff competition to claim the well-respected Lubetkin Prize for a private house development in Cahuita, Costa Rica, .

Sunand Prasad, president of RIBA, said: “My congratulations to Gianni Botsford, whose house for his father, shows that sometimes the best architecture can be small in scale but big in architectural ambition..”

The RIBA Client of the Year 2008 winner went to Coin Street Community Builders.
